Join City of Eugene Recreation and Willamette Riverkeeper for a paddling cleanup effort along the Willamette River through Springfield and Eugene. We will start from Eastgate Woodlands at the end of Aspen Street (aka: D Street Boat Ramp), pick up trash along two miles of the river, and take out at the Alton Baker Boat Ramp. Join Willamette Riverkeeper and the Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance for a birding outing on the Alton Baker Canoe Canal! This will be a roughly 1.5 hour paddle on calm flatwater with beautiful riparian habitat, and we will end the trip just in time for the start of the Wings on the Willamette Bird Festival. We will provide canoes, paddles, and PFDs for all participants who require them – just bring a pair of binoculars and a positive attitude! Participants are also welcome to join using their own kayak or canoe.

On October 4th, volunteers across Oregon will unite for the Great Willamette Cleanup, with sites stretching from the river’s headwaters to its confluence with the Columbia. Pick the spot closest to your heart and Get Dirty for Good alongside neighbors, families, and fellow river lovers. Every bag of trash collected and every shoreline restored adds to a healthier, more resilient Willamette River.

Birding at the Willamette Wetlands 
Saturday, August 16th, 8 am-10 am

Event Details
Tucked away next to the confluence of the Tualatin River and Willamette River, the Willamette Wetlands is West Linn's largest remaining wetland. Home to over 130 bird species, including Osprey, Great Egret, Belted Kingfisher, and Great Blue Heron, along with a thriving beaver population, river otters and more. Join Friends of Willamette Wetlands on a free bird walk, where we'll help you spot some of the inhabitants of this special place and share the current threats facing this urban wetland. 

Parking: Carpooling is highly encouraged! Depending on the level of interest for this event, attendees may need to park by the Willamette Park & Bernert Landing Boat Ramp and take a mostly flat, half mile walk down Volpp Street to 4th Street. For those with more limited mobility, some street parking is available along 5th Avenue near the intersection of 4th Street in West Linn. Please be mindful not to block driveways or mailboxes when parking in the surrounding neighborhood.
Where to Meet: We will start by the info booth & picnic table on 4th Street and venture out along the streets bordering the wetlands to identify a wide variety of birds. Google Maps / Apple Maps

What to Bring: Please consider bringing binoculars, water, and dress for the weather (check the forecast). Most importantly, bring your enthusiasm for wetlands & identifying wildlife!

Join Willamette Riverkeeper, Oregon Parks & Recreation Department and friends to help plant newly harvested aquatic native plants, Wapato (Sagittaria latifolia), on Mission Lake at Willamette Mission State Park. We will come together to plant this important native species in designated areas around the site to improve habitat, water quality, overall watershed health, and restore this culturally significant plant to the river. If you love the river, plants and getting your hands dirty this is the perfect event for you!
